This week our team took a trip to Boeng Mealea, Koh Ker and Preah Vihear. Even after culling my photos, I was left with more than 300, so I thought I would separate my blog posts into three, so as to not overwhelm people!
Our first stop was Boeng Mealea, which is about 70km from Siem Reap. Our team met at HHA at 4:40am, and for once, everyone was on time! This was because our Education Manager, Chhalin, who I had given the responsibility of organising the day to, had set up a ‘buddy system’, where everyone was responsible for phoning one another to wake each other up, and also accompany them on the motorbike ride to HHA. We actually left before the scheduled departure time, something unheard of for our staff trips!
It was a fairly quiet ride to Boeng Mealea, after the initial excitement wore off most people slept. When we got to the ticket booth, it wasn’t even open as we were there so early! We then ordered our breakfast and took a stroll around the temple, with not one other person in sight! It was ours for the taking! Myself and three other staff members have been to Boeng Mealea before, however for the other ten members of our team, this was their first time. Once we finished, we went and ate breakfast (fried rice for me), then started the journey to Koh Ker!
