It’s that time of year again. Christmas is over, the new year is yet to begin, and your stomach and wallet are suffering. So of course, it is time for me to hit you up for a donation to my annual birthday fundraiser! This year, with your support, we are going to raise enough funds to hire an additional teacher for Human and Hope Association so they can bring 60 additional Cambodian children living in poverty into their education program and reach more children like *Clay.
Clay is an eight-year-old girl who would cry every day when her mother brought her to school. Born prematurely, Clay was much smaller than the other students and felt scared to be amongst bigger kids. With persistence from her teacher and dedication from her mother who wasn’t afforded an education herself, Clay’s behaviour eventually started to change. Clay graduated from preschool in 2017 and made the transition to
The results of the education program speak for itself. The English classes have a 90% pass rate. All students in the Khmer language program become literate in their native language within 12 months. 98% of preschool graduates since 2013 remain in public school today. But this can only be achieved with the dedication of the local staff who work Sunday – Friday to instil knowledge, hope and confidence in these students.
Since 2013, I have donated my birthday to Human and Hope Association. It is because of your support that we have been able to establish a poverty-alleviating sewing program; send three Cambodians to pursue further education, hire an accountant, install ceilings in stifling hot classrooms and fund the travel costs for women living in rural areas to study at Human and Hope Association. Now, we can change more lives through education.
